3 Things EVERY person is CALLED to…

September 18, 2017 - Blog -

Hey Oasis!

Yesterday at church, I briefly mentioned that one of the steps to growing spiritually is getting involved in a local church. If you were there, then you remember I said spiritual growth will happen when you…

  • Get in the Word.
  • Get in the Water.
  • Get Here (to church).
  • Get Serious.
  • Get Involved.
  • Get Over it.
  • I expounded on every point except “Get INVOLVED.”

When it comes to getting involved, there are 3 things I believe EVERY person is CALLED to do.

#1 – We are called to give.

One of my goals as a pastor is to help people loosen their grip on their money. The reason is because I believe we cannot faithfully serve God until we have learned how to faithfully give to God.

Jesus actually said it like this… “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.”

I don’t know about you, but I’ve personally never met someone who regrets being generous or leveraging their money for doing good in the world. I believe it should be your desire (and mine) that EVERYONE live according to the principles of Biblical generosity. The more I read the Bible, the more clearly I see that we are called to be financial contributors, not merely spiritual consumers of the church.

We are called to give.

#2 – We are called to serve.

In the past, people have asked “Isn’t that what we pay the pastor to do?” OR some have asked “Well isn’t that what we pay the staff to do?”

And my answer is always a resounding NO. Those questions are small church minded questions. The idea that a local church “pays” the staff to “do a job” is bogus. That’s not Biblical OR practical.

The role of a church staff = lead people!!!

Oasis doesn’t hire staff to do a job. We hire staff to lead, administrate, and organize. We hire LEADERS who lead leaders.

The role of our staff is to EQUIP and ENABLE others to do the work of the ministry. Our God given responsibility is to help others leverage their gifts to serve others. I’m convinced that Peter was actually on to something when he said…

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.”

Let’s all do this.

You are called to serve. I’m called to serve. We are called to serve.

#3 – We are called to share.

“I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” –Philemon 1:6

Sharing Christ WILL grow your faith.

If your spiritual life only consists of reading your bible and going to church, then you are missing it.  This is why we are doing #SundayFunday on October 1. Yes, it’s a huge kids party. But the purpose of the party is so that you can leverage it as a reason to invite another family to church. At Oasis, we believe inviting people to a place where they can meet Jesus IS sharing your faith. And Oasis is a place where people meet Jesus.

EVERY FAMILY can REACH a family.

Of course, I want you to grow in Christ. And you can’t grow without giving, you can’t grow without serving, you can’t grow without sharing.

Let’s do this.

Ephesians 4:16 – “He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”
