Acts 1 Reflection

February 20, 2018 - Blog, Luke/Acts -

In our staff meeting today, we studied Acts 1 & 2 together.

Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Essentially, Jesus is saying there is a mission in front of us, and the world is our opportunity. Not only that, but through the power of the Holy Spirit, He has given us everything we need to take the Gospel everywhere.

Are you even a part of this movement? For so many of us, we’ve chosen to opt out. We see stuff, hear stuff, go to church, our kids are enrolled in Christian school, but when it comes to the move of God in the world, we simply aren’t a part of it. Do you anticipate God to move in your office or place of employment? Do you care to know if God is going to make a difference in your community? Are you involved in the mess of peoples lives? What about your family? When is the last time you grabbed hands with your family and said a prayer other than the one you’ve rehearsed and recited before meal time for the past decade?

Right after Jesus said what he said in Acts 1:8, he ascended to heaven. And then the men who were present were staring into the sky, speechless, and motionless. And an angel appeared and said…

“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here…?

Maybe that’s the question we should all be answering today. Why am I standing here? It’s time for us to stop waiting around and get busy! God is moving! And the Church is UNSTOPPABLE because of the power of God in us. Our potential to change the world will be realized as soon as we start operating with urgency. Do you want to be part of this? If so, begin by asking God to do something new within YOU. Give yourself to Him. Listen. Follow. Let’s go!
