Beautiful Feet

Telling others about Jesus is NOT a good idea…it is a COMMAND issued by JESUS Himself.

It’s RARELY easy, it usually makes us UNCOMFORTABLE, and some people WILL think you are CRAZY. Interestingly, the people who have been Christians for the longest are often the ones who REFUSE to share Christ with others. It’s like we have trained ourselves to IGNORE the final words of Jesus.

Regardless, we are STILL called to do this!

So, today I hope you will take a little time to read Acts 8:26-40 and Isaiah 52:7 with me. And then after you read, take about 10 minutes to consider 3 thoughts:

Thought #1 – Evangelism Is TELLING Others About Jesus!

Have you ever heard the phrase “preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary use words”?  Yea, that sounds really good but it doesn’t make any sense…Because the gospel IS WORDS. Without words, there would be no gospel.

GOD asks in Romans 10:14…

“…how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?”

It’s through TELLING & HEARING that people are saved.

Sure, I think doing good and being good is the right way to live. BUT please don’t believe the lie that cleaning someone’s yard or paying for their chick-fil-a is evangelism…because it’s NOT!

The Biblical definition of evangelism is when we TELL OTHERS ABOUT JESUS.

Thought #2 – To Tell Others About Jesus, We Often Have To “Go Out Of Our Way.”

When I was in college I heard someone describe “lifestyle evangelism.” Basically they just go about their own life and expect that people will see how different they are and then want to be like them. LITERALLY that was their definition.  And what’s even more funny is that’s the kind of thing I OFTEN hear from people as it relates to the subject of evangelism.

When did we start believing the lie that if we can just live a nice, good, southern Christian life…don’t drink too much, don’t get angry publicly, acquire a little wealth…and expect our neighbors and friends to say “wow they are so different, I think I want to meet Jesus.”

That is not “lifestyle evangelism.” That’s just “happenstance.”  Evangelism is intentional. Rarely accidental.  In Acts 8:26, God specifically points Philip in a different direction.  He leads him “out of his way.”

Philip was AVAILABLE, he OBEYED, and he had to TELL someone about Jesus. That’s evangelism.

Question – are you available to do whatever God wants you to do?

Thought #3 – PLEASE Be Your Normal Self!

For real though…YOU being YOU is good enough for Jesus.

  • you don’t have to change your voice,
  • you don’t have to speak in the King James version language,
  • you don’t have to pray a “mighty” prayer,
  • you don’t have to be super spiritual about it,
  • you don’t have to say “God told me to…”  (seriously, EVEN IF he did tell you, you can just do it without saying “God told me…”)
  • you don’t have to know a bunch of pithy statements,

All you have to do is be you. Be intentional. Use your words. And trust Jesus to do the rest. You might have a plain face…crooked teeth…soft belly…blah fashion…average build….but you have BEAUTIFUL FEET.
