About a month ago we began a small project to supplement as many families as possible in Southern Wake County with FOOD for the holidays. Part of my motivation for this is rooted in my own personal story, and another motivation is because I’m a part of a church that really is here for good.
As we get closer to the end of the month, here are some clarifying thoughts and an update on the project:
-I didn’t want to do another “food drive” because I wanted people to be MORE engaged in the actual work of ministry.
-So I’ve challenged every family at Oasis to reach a family by doing more than just dropping food off at church.
-I’m asking families to go ahead pack a box of food (items listed below) and WAIT for us to send you a name and address for delivery. You will not drop the box off at church or anywhere else, you will simply pack the box, and then deliver it to an actual family at an address/location that we will provide you.
-Deliveries will begin on the week of October 30. And if you signed up, you will get the details for drop off that week. If you want to pack a box and deliver it, you can sign up here.
-We will LIKELY have more than enough people sign up to serve food than people who want to receive food. So, any leftover boxes will be dropped off with the Holly Springs Food Cupboard to assist them in feeding the community as well.
Who is this project FOR?
-This project is NOT just for families who are dead broke or poor.
-This is for ANYONE who can use a little extra food for the holidays. You may be suddenly facing unemployment, or a single parent dealing with financial concerns, or you suddenly had a bunch of bills and could use some help….
…You may not feel like you “NEED” it, but if it ended up on your doorstep, you wouldn’t turn it away.
-WHY you may want some food assistance doesn’t matter, just let us know because we want to help you. If you want to remain anonymous, that’s fine, just send me a private message.
-I expect to serve between 60 and 100 families.
-We currently have about 30 families on our radar and will be delivering boxes of food to their doorstep during the week of October 30th.
What if I’m not comfortable delivering food to needy people? Take a man with you who isn’t scared of people who are different from him. And if you need help locating a man who isn’t scared, let me know and I’ll connect you to someone. I know people. Also, if it makes you uncomfortable to deliver food to a needy person, imagine being the person in need…because that’s even more uncomfortable.
